Rome

Hey!! Guess where I am:). Rome is gorgeous! It's the second most beautiful place i have been to other than Paris. Did you know that Rome is the capital of Italy? Well, yea, it is. In this city i want to tell you about some famous landmarks and history and stuff.

Landmarks

One of the symbols of Rome is the Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre ever built in the Roman Empire. Originally capable of seating 60,000 spectators, it was used for gladiatorial combat. Some other ancient monuments of Rome would be, Roman Forum, the Domus Aurea, the Pantheon, Trajan's Column, Trajan's Market, the Catacombs, the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla, Castel Sant'Angelo, the Mausoleum of Augustus, the Ara Pacis, the Arch of Constantine, the Pyramid of Cestius, and the Bocca della Verità. rome is also known as a place for fashion, did you know it was the fourth most popular place when it came to fashion. ofcourse not as popular as milan. Well i might be buying some things in this city:)

Some History of Rome.

Rome is a VERY old city. It is so old, it is today known as 'the eternal city'. The Romans believed their city was founded in the year 753 BC. Historians today believe it was the year 625 BC. Rome was governed by kings, but after the seventh king they finally took power and ruled themselves. They actually had a counsil known as the Senate which ruled them. From this point on we speek of the Roman Republic.Rome knew four classes of people. This division was very important to the Romans.The lowest class were the slaves. They were owned by other people. They had no rights at all.The next class were the plebeians. They were free people. But they had little say at all.The second highest class were the equestrians (sometimes they are called the 'knights'). Their name means the riders, they were given a horse to ride if they were called to fight for Rome. To be an equestrian you had to be rich.The highest class were the nobles of Rome. They were called patricians. All the real power in Rome lay with them.
